Among podcast shows, it is almost undisputed that the popular podcasts are those that talk and features topics such as technology, computer, comedy and the last but not the least, sex. Of course, there are few expectations as there are also business, parenting and music podcasts that are quite known now but when it comes to most surveys, the podcasts with these topics (tech, comedy, sex) have relatively bigger audience share.
I think that the possible reason for this has something to do with this report: US men age 18 to 34 comprise nearly 27% of the total male Internet user population. And I guess that this makes sense as I can really notice that there are more men bloggers, podcasters and social broadcasters. In fact, we have more than a bunch of famous bloggers/podcasters nowadays.
In my circle of friends and in our community, the numbers of men who are into social media broadcasting and networking outweigh the number of women. Although this does not necessarily means that men are more computer savvy than women. It is just that men are more inclined visually and really enjoys active interaction when it comes to video games, computers, music and sex.
That is why, podcasters who are into producing shows that interest male gender are more likely to be watched and subscribed regularly. And I think, this is also the reason why more and more podcasters are trying their luck in producing these shows. But of course, this should not discourage us from producing podcasts specializing in other topics. The World Wide Web is huge and the market is still growing which means that there is enough room for everybody. What matters most is the knowledge and enthusiasm of the producer in the segments that he want to broadcast. Without it, the show will be boring even if it talks about sex or computer.
