Practical Tips When Attending Podcasting Events

September 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Attending exhibits and events about podcasting is one great way for both budding and seasoned podcasters to learn and expand their networks. Podcasting events such as PodCamp and PNME are so famous among podcasters all over the world because of its well-known benefits.

But did you know that you need to be prepared when attending exhibits and expo so that you can get most out of these events? The number one thing that you need to have with you when attending podcasting events is business cards. Bring lots of it especially when you are expanding your network and want to build business relationship to the exhibitors and attendees.

If you will attend a presentation or a workshop, the most handy and most functional gadget is a voice recorder. I have this super slim voice recorder that I always bring with me whenever I attend seminars and conferences. It allows me to focus to the presentation and participate in the discussion and then, create a complete transcript of the presentation afterwards. I do not need to cram in taking notes when I have a voice recorder with me.

Laptop is also important but in my own experience, I really find it hard to bring it with me. I prefer using PDA because it is much handy but if you feel that you will miss a lot without your lappy, why not invest a rolling bag for your laptop? This will ease your burden of carrying your laptop around the exhibit hall and you can enjoy live blogging if the place has free Wi-Fi.

Lastly, since most podcasting events have informal setting, you do not need to worry about wearing formal attire. Most attendees simply wear smart casual attire where they can explore the entire hall with easiness. Your choice of footwear is important because events like these require attendees a lot of walking, so wear comfortable footwear.

And speaking of podcasting event, there will be a Podcast and New Media Expo before end of September. If you will be attending it, read Jason’s suggestions on how you can get most out of attending this event.
