The rating system of podcast is the manner of counting the quantity of subscriptions and downloads of each podcast. The collected feedback from the audience or listeners and the star ratings of the podcast also matter on the actual podcast rating.
This is the basis used in podcasting to determine which podcast is the most popular for the time being. This aspect is important to podcasters as this will help them generate advertisement and yield revenues. That is why many podcast producers, big and small, expert or novice, publish their podcasts not only in their website but also to other podcasting websites. This is one great way to attract listeners and obtain regular subscribers.
The usual podcast rating system is done monthly wherein are being reset at the start of each month. Voters can only vote once every month for each podcast. The two most common sites that conduct a podcast rating system are the Yahoo Podcast and Podcast Alley.
In Yahoo Podcasts, the users or the voters are required to click on the number of stars that they want to give to a particular podcast. User should not forget to save their rating and Yahoo verifies the votes by prompting the users/voters to enter their Yahoo email address. Podcast Alley almost have the same rating system as with Yahoo Podcast. But in Podcast Alley, the voter may enter any valid email address to place their vote.
