A Gist in Podcatcher Programs

September 16th, 2006 · 2 Comments

A podcatcher is basically an application that works as data collector from various audio or video feeds that were pre-selected or subscribed by the podcast user. You can literally call this tool as ‘podcast catcher’ because it automatically starts to look for new podcast updates the moment you connect your computer to the Internet.

The general term for podcatcher is aggregator which is more commonly used in all other applications or program to collect data or updates. But in podcasting, we just use the term podcatcher. Podcatcher is a very time-saving tool for podcast lovers because it directly checks and processes the list of your podcast feeds to make it available for you to listen or view later.

Podcatcher applications are also customizable. You can set its interval or frequency so that it will automatically check for new podcasts depending on the interval you want, say every 2 hours, every day or every week. You can also add and remove feeds on your podcatcher anytime.

Another good thing about podcatcher is that they are generally free software that can be downloaded from the Internet. And for me, getting podcast updates are lot easier with the help of podcatcher and I am assured that I can not miss my favorite podcasts.

You can read more on how a podcatcher works at Wikipedia. And if you want to try a podcatcher, you may go to casedogdesigns. Similar article on podcatcher can be also read at Computer Minute, SFwalk and Redswoosh.
